Hawkesbury Horticultural Show 2022 WiFi coverage

Mon 12th Sep 2022

We had a blast at the 136th Hawkesbury Horticultural Show 2022! As part of our community scheme in Hawkesbury Upton we provided complementary managed internet access across the showground using our FTTP line into the parish hall, with external antennas to create a point-to-multipoint wireless network. A great example of how the rural gigabit voucher scheme is having a real positive impact in communities that were previously struggling with internet connectivity.

Hawkesbury Horticultural Show is locally believed to be one of the longest continuously running Horticultural Shows in England. From its start in 1885, to the 134th Show in the summer of 2019, it had been held every year without a break. The main attraction is the large marquee, full of exhibits to be judged on Show day - the biggest and best fruit, vegetables and flowers as well as crafts, home baking and home-made wine and beer, flower arrangements, photographs and children’s pictures and models.

The Show officially begins with the crowning of the Carnival Queen, or Carnival King. The carnival procession of decorated floats and walkers in fancy dress travels through the village and into the showground, led by a Silver Band.  If you didn't make it this year we highly recommend coming along next year. The carnival procession was extremely entertaining with masses of effort put into all of the floats, costumes and props – our CIO even got his hands dirty helping to build a huge yellow submarine on one of the floats and helping behind the bar. There is plenty to do and see for the whole family from the special shows/attractions in the centre arena to fair ground rides, not forgetting a vast array of stall holders, a deer and hog roast and a fantastic bar. If you have green fingers or a crafting talent then be sure to enter your handy work into the wide range of competitions. For more information head over to the official website.

It was a pleasure to support the community and chat to all of the attendees at our stall. Special thanks to Keith Player, Julian Round, Vicky Rispin, Attie Grande, Angelo Sauro and everyone in the show committee that continuously work hard each year organising and hosting a fantastic event.
